Hi,
Here is some feedback :
Yesterday I tried for the second time to try out GameCommanderPro - first time around (when it was first mentioned on d-b forums) it messed up all my WTF folders/accounts so this time I decided I would try against a copy of my setup on another drive
http://www.gamecommanderpro.com/gettingstarted
is lacking the basic info:
Does GCP support virtualization of WTF or not ? ie do I need 1 Wow install or 5 to 5 box ? I thought it would support different WTF/virtualization but looks like I'm wrong - please correct me and do write in http://www.gamecommanderpro.com/gettingstarted that you need N wow folders if that's the case
Second there is very very unintuitive startup/setup very confusing (and also ugly huge fonts (I'm on w7 if that matters) and layout - not sure what graphic toolkit (reminded me of delphi) you are using but maybe considering using something else more native - but I digress) - the first thing I would like when I set 5 windows is that they don't show up all stacked on top of each other - also why do I have to click "active" before doing anything else ? why is it that after I save a layout then I start I get a choice between <Default> and the one I saved ? can I save "default" ?
When you click to not start now; you get lots of errors during startup (don't offer options which don't work)
How do I remove all borders to windows and yet still move them (I want to use 100% of my screen real estate) ?
I haven't been able to get past that / startup yet so I can't yet comment on the rest of the feature
I think you guys are on to something potentially great but it's far from ready yet, though I'd like to give it a chance - but I'm hoping that there is some easy way to setup windows location (even if that means entering coordinates; I'm not afraid of that as I use HotKeyNet at the moment)
Thanks (don't take personally my somewhat negative initial impression/feedback; it's for future improvement)
ps: reason I think virtualization isn't working is I tried the "high" button in settings for my main/tank account and "low" on the other 4 ; for 1 wow folder and they all changed to low rez (and still stack up uselessly by default - also sound is turned on on all 5... the medium/low setting should turn off sound imo)

As we've said before, we do recognize the benefit of feedback, be it good or bad, in fact we probably gain more from the bad!
I accept that we probably did some strange things with the WTF files, but am concerned that you say that GCP messed up your accounts. I'm not aware of any way that this can happen (as we don't write to account data), so it would be really useful if you could please let me know how this manifested itself.
As to the WTF virtualization, the answer is yes it does. We do however recognize that the means by which you have to edit a configuration is a little cumbersome, and we are working on a layout painter / configuration editor which will achieve more of what I think you're looking for.
The current method is that, from the profile screen (select a profile and click edit) there is a settings button for each character. This presents a list of settings initially read from the WTF in the current folder for the character. You can edit an item by selecting it, changing a value and clicking update.
We are currently (i.e. been working on it today) changing our development system to address a number of issues with respect to support of future operating systems. By the end of the week GCP will be a 64 bit .net 3.5 application. As part of this upgrade, we will be addressing some of the "look and feel" issues, and, at some later date, plan to add a skinning feature.
We have been responding to customer feedback in continuing to improve our product. The general overview is that once you get it up and running, the program is very capable and easy, but the set-up was (and apparently is) letting us down. We have updated (and continue to update) the setup procedure, and as a result, I admit that the documentation has got a little behind. We have a project in place to address this, and I will make sure that your comments are included in the "things we need to fix" list.
Windows can be moved and sized by using layouts/show frames. The corresponding layouts/hide frames will maximize the real estate.
The default layout can be saved by not entering a name at the save prompt.
If you want to edit the files, they are stored in c:\gamecommanderpro and are as follows:
FormInfo<LayoutName>.txt contains the layouts for the GCP windows
Each line contains:
Left,Top,FormName,Visible,Width,Height
If Formname begins with "*" then width and height are obeyed, else they are not
WOWFormInfo<LayoutName>.txt contains the layouts for the WoW windows.
The order of data is:
Bottom
Left
Right
Top
The "do not start" currently enters a mode which is designed for developers so that we can run GCP without an attached game, and this behavior will be changed in the next release.
I'm sorry that you are frustrated with our startup procedure. We have improved it but are aware that it needs work yet. The problem we have is that we need to gather quite a lot of information to cope with the differing configurations that we come across, and doing this in an intuitive way still remains a challenge. In this regard, we are always glad to hear suggestions.
For this type of product, operating in so many different environments and providing such a wide range of capabilities, I'm not sure it will ever be "finished". I recognize your "not ready" comment is borne of your frustration, and I'm sorry that our start-up procedure has disappointed you, but if we can help you get past that, then I think you'll be pleased with the features of the main program.
I suggest that we have a support chat session to get you up and running, and rest assured that we will attempt to address all the issues that you have raised.
I thank you for taking the time to look at our product, and for taking the time to provide this feedback. We'd much rather hear about problems, than people just go away silently.
Thanks
Phil
