The Getting Started Guide indicates, "When creating a profile it is good to have a Tank, Healer, and the rest as DPS." This makes sense in a traditional group situation... but how do you set this up if you are running 2 mages (i.e., no healer or tank)? or a mage and priest (no tank)? or 5 warlocks? or a situation where the tank will be someone's pet? You get the idea.

Thanks :)

Its a strategy more than a need.

Basically even if you have a combination of the type you describe, as soon as you attack, someone will start being hit - thus someone is tanking.

My theory is that it's better for you to decide this, rather than the mob.

Bottom line is that, you will always have a tank and DPS situation, even if you have 5 casters. The one being hit will have a different priority.

Say you have 5 locks with a voidwalker tanking. You have a tank (voidy), DPS (the locks) and when the voidy needs a funnel, you have a healer. This means that the toon with the voidy will not be following the same cast sequence as the others, hence should be in a different group.

Say you have 3 shamans. The one being hit becomes the tank. This one will suffer knockback. This will mean that you can no longer have them cast together. If you have this one in a different group, then you can control the casting better. You also have the decision about who heals. It's probably not efficient to have them all heal at once (waste of mana). Once again, a case for having a healer.

The main thing is to think about how this relates to your group and have a plan. Someone will be a tank, someone will heal (even if only with bandages) and the rest will be in DPS mode. This is how any significant fight will go, so it is good to set up your tactics to cope with it.

Hope this clarifies things

Phil

Any specifics for profile setup?

Phil,

Thanks for your reply :)

And I agree with your synopsis of group make-up.

The thing I'm not 100% sure of is the sub-group roles that I should be setting when creating the group profile.

What I'm understanding is that who ever is the group Leader is the tank... because that's who the DPS sub-group will assist to target. However, how does this work if the "real" tank is a pet? Must the pet belong to the group leader, and that leader have the same target selected as his/her pet?

Should the warlock whose pet will be the tank, be noted as the "tank" in the pull-down menu? Or is DPS ok?

Is there any situation where the software will have a hard time with working properly if all three sub-group roles aren't assigned during the profile setup?

Basically, how do I get these special situations to fit with the wonderful logic of the GCP program?

Thanks!

I normally set my main in the tank group just so I can control it separately. I put all my alts in the DPS class. If I need a dedicated healer I will just use the healers command to add a healer to the heals group. GCP will create a Tank, DPS and Heals group whether or not there is a character set in them in the Team editor.

Each group has its own target which can be set with the "Target" command. So any of your characters can be the "Targeter".

If you are using a pat to tank I would suggest this command:

<<WarlockName>>
Macro /petattack [target=%$Leader%target]

With that you will be able to send your pet in from any character.

As I said before GCP creates the three basic roles automatically but they do not need to have a character in them.

Phil and I will get together and write up some documentation explaining in depth how groups work and how to get the most out of them.
