I have been wanting to try multiboxing for a while, decided to download the demo. Ive spent about an hour now so far trying to get GCP to get my battlenet info right. Very frustrated.. i have 2 accounts, one for myself and one for my wife, they are different battlenet accounts. Every time i try launcing it brings up the old account names, which when i try logging in, tells me they need to be upgraded, which they have.

No one is on your live chat support. I was looking forward to trying this but im about to give up, if GCP cant even get this right.

I wanted to explain a little

I wanted to explain a little more about the problems i am having. I was pretty annoyed before, couldn't describe them well.

In the "getting started" guide, there is nothing that speaks at all of the window for "battle net account". When i enter my battle net account info, however, my OLD account name comes up in the WoW window.

Battlenet is somewhat complicted

Sorry about this situation, but we are working in an environment which we don't control, and making WoW work in a way it was not designed to. Multiboxing is allowed by Bliz, but they make little or no attempt to make it easier. Some things which appear simple actually require a certain amount of trickery under the hood.

In the old days (when we first wrote GCP), we could derive account names by simply reading the local folder structure.

Since the move to battlenet (I'm still to see a benefit from being forced to go that way), the situation is more complex.

Old accounts (pre battlenet and migrated) still retain the old structure.

New accounts get a system (rather than user) account name, and the folder on disk uses some strange sequence number.

Our first issue is how to relate the number (which we can find) to the name (which we can't)

The second problem is that, in order to automate the selection of sub account, we need to know ALL sub accounts (even if not being used for this team, and maybe even for different games). This information is only stored on the battlenet server, and we have no access to it.

Although we can still work with battlenet accounts, it does require more effort to set up.

Jeremy will be posting an article on our Wiki later today. This will describe the steps needed to make battlenet accounts work smoothly with GCP.

Unfortunately I have no experience of this as my accounts where created before battlenet and merged so I'm afraid I can't be of too much help.

There are a number of forum posts on this subject, which seem to have helped others.

If anyone else can throw some light on this subject, please feel free to comment.

The two accounts I have

The two accounts I have currently ARE in fact old accounts that were then merged. They were merged into two seperate battle.net accounts

Account1 ->merged to battlenet1

account2 ->merged to battlenet2

whenever i try to use GCP to fire up WoW and log in, it always brings up the old (account1, account2) logins, which if i try to use, say need to be merged to battlenet (which they have). If i manually overwrite the "account1" and "account2" that have been autofilled in for me, then im guessing GCP gets confused, and is not longer able to recognise these windows.

Got home today and decided to

Got home today and decided to try some more stuff, nothing is working. So pretty much what your saying Phil is that this software Isnt designed to work with Battlenet accounts without some pretty in-depth work arounds?

Makes me pretty glad I didnt spend the 30 bucks on it right away. Ive put about 4 hours into this already and havent even gotten off the ground yet. Im one more attempt away from giving up, and moving on to different software or options.

Lets set up a chat session

I'm not saying that it won't work with battle net, but there are some extra steps detailed here:
http://www.gamecommanderpro.com/gcpwiki/index.php?title=Battle.Net_Accounts

We'll try to automate this, but there are some difficulties to overcome. These are to do with us not being able to get access to your battlenet account.

One option would be to remove the facilities that depend on this information - none of our competitors use it - but they don't have the same features.

Any multiboxing setup will require a certain amount of effort and knowledge, but it seems that this battlenet issue has made it more of a pain for you, and for this I'm sorry.

Lets see if we can sort it out - I'm sure you'll be glad we did.

Let me know when (if) you'll be available this weekend and I'll make sure that we're available to chat.

Phil

Battlenet Accts and Old Accts

I run a 5 man team when I'm Multiboxing. Two of my accts I've had since vanilla WoW and the 3 new ones since November. Of course the old ones have been merged into seperate battlenet accts and I started playing with GCP with those two accts intially. I'll explain here how I set the accts up in the Layout Editor for a fictional 2man team using old WoW accts like yours.

Account1:

Battle.Net Account:
Old Login Name: iamuber1
Character Name: Uber
Realm: Nubs Hollow

Account2:

Battle.Net Account:
Old Login Name: iamawesome1
Character Name: Notsouber
Realm: Nubs Hollow

When you're setting up your team in the layout editor and choosing characters for Char1-CharXX it can be a little tricky if you're not careful. For Char1 pick the toon's name. It will prompt you to pick the file path to open launch WoW from the WoW folder itself. This is for Vista and Windows7:

C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft

From there it prompts you to choose the account. In your case since they are old accts merged with battlenet you should be looking for your OLD acct login name. Click on the Character Name box and follow the paths to your desired toon name, designate their class, and their group (Tank, DPS, or Healer).

Now go up to the Battle.Net Account box and type in your new battle.net account login name. Click SAVE under the "Team Information" box.

Now set up your other toons on the team the same way however ignore the Battle.Net Account box this time. Save the team again once you're done. Now go back to your Char2 tab and this time click "Settings." It will bring up and new window that lists Battle.Net login name, account folder for that character, and the realm. Using the example information I provided above your Character settings should read like this:

Character 1

SET accountName "gambatte11@email.com"
SET accountList "IAMUBER1"
SET realmName "Nubs Hollow"

Character 2

SET accountName "gambatte11@email.com"
SET accountList "IAMAWSOME1"
SET realmName "Nubs Hollow"

What you can see is both characters have the same SET accountName information. Click on that line on the 2nd character. Now you're able to change that information in the prompt line at the bottom of the window. Change it and click "Update." Were going to change it to reflect the correct Battle.Net Account information. In my example I'm changing to :

SET accountName "gambatte22@email.com"
SET accountList "IAMAWSOME1"
SET realmName "Nubs Hollow"

You MUST change it this way or GCP will bring up all the WoW windows with the first characters login name. The layout editor also doesn't show the update on the character tab, but as long as its correct in the settings you're fine.

Personally, I don't use the auto log in wizard in GCP. I manually enter the password when I log in (no big deal to me since they're all the same and you can use broadcast mode in GCP to enter on all 5 windows at once).

I hope this helps you with your issue. My best advice though is stick it out with GCP if you want to multibox. There is a learning curve to the program and I spent the first 5 days figuring out how to get the basics to work on two accts. After that its been very nice to work with short of a couple snags along the way while leveling my first 5man group. Nothing that I wouldn't expect though for a program that does what GCP does. Also the support guys are really good, especially in when you get a live session with one. So stick with it, you'll be very pleased once you get going

Sorry Phil-I was in the

Sorry Phil-

I was in the midst of writing my post when you replied with the wiki link. Essentially the same thing you linked, and i forgot to add "!" in my SET accountList examples. They should read like this:

Character 1

SET accountName "gambatte11@email.com"
SET accountList "!IAMUBER1"
SET realmName "Nubs Hollow"

Character 2

SET accountName "gambatte22@email.com"
SET accountList "!IAMAWSOME1"
SET realmName "Nubs Hollow"

Keep up the good work.

gambatte, i followed the

gambatte, i followed the steps you outlined, and it seems to have gotten me one step further, i was able to get it to launch with the proper battle.net accounts in each wow window.

However, once they launch in windowed mode, GCP does not seem to be associating the wow windows with the nameplates. According to the getting started guide, the nameplates should turn green when you mouseover the associated WoW window. They do not. Also, I should be able to control my characters just by mousing over that window, I cannot. I have to click on the window (changing the focus to that window) and then i get control over that character. I would continue along with the getting started guide, but it seems like that would be fairly pointless since there is something wrong with this step.

We've been woring on a new version

We are working on a new version to fix the issues with battlenet accounts. We have about another 2 hours work, which we will do tomorrow morning. If you can give use till then, I think many of these issues will go away.

I'm only just reading this so have missed the 6 central but I'll switch it on now and keep the computer by me.

Thanks
Phil

Is "Active" checked?

When you launch WoW with GCP, mouse up to the top of your main monitor. This will make the GCP dropdown menu show up. In the upper right hand corner is "Active" with a box next to it. It SHOULD be black text when you launch. Check the box and the text will turn GREEN. Uncheck and the text turns RED. Green means GCP is active aka, you can mouse over the windows and that's enough to to change your active screen. All your commands, keybinds, everything that associated with GCP is running. Red means GCP is inactive aka you need to click on the window to make it your active screen, normal key assignments are in place, and GCP commands/key assignments will not work.

Now that I think about it this was my intial hang up with GCP also. I didn't have Active checked and was getting frustrated myself. I forget though which post it was I looked at on the GCP forums that told to check that. From the description of everything that you've had going on it sounds to me like this will fix most of issues with trying to get things to work.

Good call

I had an on line session with netlohcs. There were a number of issues related to Battlenet accounts (due to recent discussions we re-arranged priorities and will be issuing a battlenet aware version of GCP today) but netlohcs had also missed the active button - not the first person to do this - I think we need this to be more prominent.

I also spoke to another user last night and there was a confusion with which folder was the "correct" one.

So todays fix will have:

Battle.net account management.
Search for user folder (you supply the name, we search the disk for it's folder) - should make setup easier and therefore make import more reliable.
Make frames re sizable when you show them (not sure when we lost that)
A more prominent way to show that GCP is not active.
