I walked thru the wikki and did everything it says to do but when I hit things like F for follow or whatever nothing works, my toon never follows, my alt never targets what my main is targeting, nothing works. Help please! What am I missing??

Testing a GCP installation

It's probably a straight forward missing step (possibly something the Wiki page should explain better).

Some basic tests to help zero in on the problem:

  • Make sure that WoW is set to windowed mode (start WoW manually, check the video settings, then exit)
  • Make sure that GCP starts the WoW sessions, and that you get the correct number of copies in the layout you chose (check the settings in the layout (top) section of the config screen if not)
  • Check that the GCP mod is enabled and active on all sessions (type /gcp export in the chat window - you should see a list of stuff in reply - if not check that the GameCommandPro mod is enabled in the WoW addons screen)
  • Activate GCP - check that GCP is active and the word "Active" on the right of the toolbar is green (if not check the check box)
  • Make sure that the names in the small "character name" windows are the correct names for your toons (if not recheck your group inputs on the setup screen (bottom))
  • Check that as you move the mouse from WoW window to WoW window, that the appropriate name turns green (checks that GCP has the right toon associated with the right window - if not, check the setup)
  • As you move the mouse from window to window (don't click), check that the movement keys (QWEASD) work in that window (movement commands follow the active window - this checks that GCP can send keys to the windows)
  • Make sure you have run the "do this first" wizard (if not see the Wiki for how to do this)
  • Move the mouse cursor over each WoW window in turn and press "F". The alt(s) should follow the toon in the current window. (if it doesn't, the wizard has failed)

If GCP passes these tests, then it is basically working, if it doesn't then tell me where it fails (or where I've confused you) and we can take it from there.

If you send your config to me and I can take a look. To do this, select views/advanced, check the debug check box, and click the "preview" button that appears. Copy and paste into an e-mail, find and delete the "Logon" section (if you set one up - as your passwords appear there) and send to .

If you can do the above, I'll be able to help you get this sorted.

I performed, from your list,

I performed, from your list, all of the steps listed... I am only running 2 toons, the names match up perfectly, and when I go into broadcast mode and hit forward, side, side, or back, the toon in the other window moves the same... But none of the commands like F for follow, seem to work. If I type in guild chat, both toons repeat the message in the chat window... So I know my commands are going to both characters at the same time.

I even ran the window wizard and can speed swap the main windows without any problems.

Also, when I target something in the main window, the alt toon doesn't target anything himself and just stands there.

Also... Looking over the list

Also... Looking over the list of functions in the wizards window (the window that has Basic > Do this first, etc, and the list of things like follow, halt, etc... Keybindings say things like F UP... Is that 2 key presses... Like... hit F then the UP arrow? Or F and the UP ARROW at once? I tried that and other combinations and nothing seemed to work lol :-/

FYI

Broadcast mode is a special mode which repeats all characters to each toon - it effectivly bypasses GCP logic. You should not run in broadcast mode unless you have a special need (e.g. I use it to type "/logoff" or "/use hearthstone" to all toons at the same time).

The f for follow will not work in broadcast mode. This could be the problem.

The "2 up" actually means it responds to the 2 key being released - 2 down would be when the 2 key is pressed. GCP can do things on both. This is handy when you want to press a key to start and action, and release it to end an action.

Your config looks fine.

I just added some new stuff to the Wiki, which will hopefully explain things better.

So... I can get follow to

So... I can get follow to work... H for halt brings up my honor window... SHIFT and a MOVE key works to move my alt toon... I was able to make a simple spell that has my shammy and priest cast at the same time with a single button press.... Is there a way to make my alt FACE the target? A lot of time my priest (the alt) will be followin so close he wont be facing the right way lol.

Also, when running

Also, when running (activated), and I try to type in guild chat or whatever random letters and words pop up while typing lol, is there a way to allow me to free type in chat without having to de-activate gcp each time to type something up?

Two answers (well sort of)

The facing issue is due to lag. In theory the 2nd toon should stop behind you. In practice, because of lag, WoW predicts where the toon will be next frame - if you stop, then it can be several frames before that message gets to your alt - by which time they have passed you.

The my solution is to stop the alt(s) first (hit shift-s) then your main (s). This will stop them one behind the other. You can turn your alt by pressing shift-a or shift-d. I run a warrior and some DPS and I have my "s" key programmed to be timed with the tanks charge. When I press F1, the alts stop and the tank charges (actually the hunter casts hunters mark as well).

If you want to type in chat just press enter first and escape when you've finished. This activates "pass thru" which passes all keys to the window with focus.
