Okay, i'm tired of wrestling with this program.

I want something simple. I just want keys to get cloned to my 2nd machine. I don't need anything fancy and the wiki is confusing. Every time i've gone through all the setup options I get some error that it can't find an .ini file that doesn't exist. The program won't install itself where I put it, which was C:\Apps\GameCommanderPro, it wants to put files in the root of my C drive. I'm not happy about this. I don't know if you guys are even bothering to test on Vista+ machines but for a long time I've been installing apps to their own folder due to the write problems of using the Program Files folders and I'd like to think that anything still being actively developed would respect a different install path and be able to function. Maybe this is the root of my issues, I don't know.

Regardless, I want simple. This program may offer a plethora of amazing things, but I just want a healbot I can use in instances, nothing fancy. Right now, I can't even figure out how to get the two clients on both machines to sync up just so I can hit the spacebar on my (only) keyboard and have it send a space to my other computer. I'd like to be able to figure out the other things later once I've got this up and running right now, but I've spent 3 hours fiddling and reinstalling and trying this and that and I can't get a single damn thing to work.

And I've already seen the "have support do it for you" option and I'm not interested. If it's that damn complicated that I can't figure it outmyself having 20 years of professional computing experience in an enterprise environment, I'm gonna have to just give up on this thing and look elsewhere.

Is there a simple explanation on getting started, or am I mostly out of luck?

Maybe partially

Hi

The program itself should go where you put it. It does put some small data files in c:\GameCommanderPro. We have considered and tried various other options, but with the wide range of machines and configurations we encounter, we came back to this method as being the simplest to support. The files are only occasionally read, and rarely written, so have negligible impact on performance.

Within windows, most programs are installed in program files (the MS default), and, as you know, this location is not suitable for data storage. For support purposes, it really helps to have a fixed reference point, and we have never come across a machine without a c drive. We would have no problem providing a configuration option to change this folder, as its held internally as a constant. We could even change the location based on OS. I'm happy to take an opinion on this, but you are the first person to raise this as an issue.

The main issue you will have with the current version is that since the upgrade to version 2, networking has been neglected. The errors that you describe almost certainly come from this. Please accept my apologies for this, but we've been trying be as responsive as possible to user requests and, frankly, most people use one computer. (There are many advantages to this, but as you are clearly knowledgeable, I won't bore you with a discourse)

We do plan to sort networking, and you are the 3rd person to ask about this (the other 2 have said no hurry as they are happy to work on one machine anyway) so I'll put it into our Monday schedule. You can expect a release by Monday PM. The logic was all in and working with the previous version but the transport broke when we changed development systems - there is only one routine to fix. (I'll also include a mechanism to change the data folder for this release - would a command line argument be OK? - I'd like to avoid the registry as some of our installations are none windows)

We don't really do a "have support do it for you" but we do offer support. Most importantly, we listen to feedback (both good and bad). In your case, I feel that a quick fix to the networking issue is the most appropriate step.

The program is not overly complicated. Remember that Multi Boxing is a complex process operating in an environment which was not designed to support it, and that we provide functionality to support experienced and sophisticated users. There is an "easy mode" which, given that we fix the network transport, will fulfill your immediate needs.

Once again, I'm sorry about the network bugs, but promise to fix them as soon as we can.

Thanks
Phil
